Kangana Ranaut to play Indira Gandhi in upcoming political drama

There may be people who don’t like Kangana Ranaut as a person for her aggressive political views but surely even they would agree that there can be no better actress than Kangana Ranaut to play the character of Indira Gandhi. The pretty actress has given her nod to play the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in an upcoming political drama.

Kangana is playing the role of Jayalalitha in the upcoming biopic on her life called Thalaivi. Now, she will be playing Indira Gandhi, and that itself has got people from all over the world buzzing over this news. In a statement, Kangana Ranaut said, “Yes, we are working on the project and the script is in the final stages. It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi, it is a grand period film, to be precise a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India. Many prominent actors will be part of this film and of course, I am looking forward to playing the most iconic leader that we have had in the history of Indian politics.”

Kangana Ranaut also added that the film is based on a book and will focus a lot on the emergency period and the operation blue star. Previously a film on Indira Gandhi was to be made with Vidya Balan in the lead, but somehow that project got shelved.

This film will be written and directed by Sai Kabir. Not only will this be Kangana’s second political drama, but this yet-untitled film will also be her second with Sai Kabir. The two previously worked together in Revolver Rani which also starred Vir Das.

At the moment Kangana Ranaut has films like Thalaivi, Dhakaad, Tejas, Aparajita Ayodhya and Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda. Once she is done with these projects, she will head on for the Indira Gandhi film. Stay hooked onto Bollywood Bubble for more such interesting stories.
