The BMC Elections are taking place in Mumbai on January 15, 2026, with residents heading out to exercise their right to vote in the civic polls. Celebrities also made their presence felt at the polling stations, ensuring their votes are counted. Among those spotted early Thursday were Twinkle Khanna, Tamannaah Bhatia and others who were seen casting their ballot.

Twinkle Khanna, wife of Akshay Kumar, a former actor and now an author, arrived at her polling station to vote in the elections. Speaking to the media afterward, she shared her thoughts, saying, “I believe it gives us a sense of control and power over the narrative. I’m voting out of habit and hope.”

Tamannaah was seen in a pink suit, and she smiled, greeting the paps. The actress maintained a low profile and left as soon as she cast her ballot.

About Maharashtra BMC Elections 2026

Polling for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections commenced at 7:30 am on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Several prominent figures were among the first to vote, setting an important tone for this crucial civic exercise after nearly four years. The election aims to fill 227 corporator seats, with approximately 1,700 candidates competing and over 1.03 crore voters participating. To facilitate maximum participation, the Maharashtra government declared a public holiday, allowing more citizens to vote during the day.

The polling process is being closely guarded, with over 28,000 police personnel deployed across Mumbai to ensure security. Voting will continue until 5:30 pm, after which the EVMs will be moved to secure locations. The counting of votes is scheduled for January 16, with results expected later that evening.
