Read on to know more.

Mahima Chaudhry Describes The Film As Relatable And Organic

Mahima Chaudhry, who essays the role of Babita in the film, spoke at length about how marriage holds immense cultural importance in India, especially for women. She said, “Shadi ek bohot important cheez hai humare culture me… India mein it’s such a big part. Humne this year hi kitni badi badi weddings dekhi, aur sabki life me specially humari culture me shaadi ek bohot badi cheez hoti hai.”

Reflecting on how perceptions have evolved over time, Mahima added that remarriage is now slowly becoming acceptable for women as well. “Aaj kal, especially women ke liye toh acceptable ho gaya hai. Pehle aadmi toh do-do shadiyan kar lete the. You know unki karwa dete the kisi bhi age me,” she said, drawing attention to the gendered double standards that existed for decades.

Citing examples from earlier generations, Mahima explained how men were rarely questioned for remarriage. “Jaise agar widow ho gaye, jaise Shrikant Verma ji, inke dadaji ki chaar baar shadiyan karwayi, kyunki unki dadi ek chal basi toh do bara shadi hui,” she shared, before adding that women, too, deserve the same acceptance today.

Shrikant Verma Highlights The Issue Of Widowed Women’s Re-Marriage

Shrikant Verma, who plays Manchu Mama, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting how widowed women were once expected to dedicate their entire lives to their late spouses. “Pehle lady agar vidhva ho jati thi, toh puri zindagi kisi ke naam pe bita deti thi right… lekin unko bhi matlab dusri shadi karne ka haqq hai,” he said.

Mahima further widened the lens, speaking about how second marriages are viewed globally. “Globally bhi maine dekha hai… pehle wo younger women ke saath shadi karte the. Matlab agar wo rich hai toh woh 20 saal ki hi dhundhenge, but ab wo apne umar se matching second marriages dhundh rahe hai,” she noted, pointing to a gradual shift in attitudes worldwide.

Addressing how Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shaadi approaches the subject, Mahima described the film as relatable and organic. “Ye ek tarah ki bohot incidental film hai. Humari tasveer dekh ke logo ko laga ki waah yaar is umar me bhi log kar rahe hai shadi, so we want that same reaction, why not?” she said.

Young actor Vyom Yadav, who plays Murli Prasad, Durlabh Prasad’s son, stressed the role of society in shaping and reshaping norms. “Norms banane wale bhi hum hai aur tod bhi hum hi sakte hai, toh I think there is nothing like a said rule,” he shared confidently.

Mahima Chaudhry Highlights Divorce Is Still An Issue?

Shrikant Verma summed up the core issue with a line that resonates deeply across generations. “Ye samaj me chaar log kya kahenge iski taraf nahi jaana chahiye,” he said, reiterating the pressure society places on personal choices.

Mahima added that while remarriage has become somewhat acceptable, divorce still faces resistance, particularly in smaller towns. “I think shaadi ke liye wo zyada acceptable hai. Divorce ke liye abhi bhi log thode se… shadi fir bhi acceptable hai ki accha aap dusri shadi kar rahe hai koi baat nahi,” she explained, highlighting lingering conservatism.

Shrikant Verma brought the discussion full circle with a powerful reminder. “Isme toh bas ek hi ayega ki sabse bada rog, kya kahenge chaar log,” he concluded.

Through honest conversations and live-in performances, Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shaadi attempts to normalise women’s remarriage by questioning outdated social norms. By addressing stigma with warmth, realism, and humour, the film urges audiences to look beyond societal judgment and embrace change, one honest conversation at a time.
