Music composer Mithoon has been utilising his lockdown period by writing songs and composing music. We had a telephonic conversation with the ‘Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage’ composer where he spoke at length about how he plans to work further amid the pandemic, how the music industry is affected by it and a lot more about himself and the industry.

Mithoon said, “The entire world has been affected and it has been the most difficult time for mankind. I have been talking to many music directors and connecting at this stage and we are trying to be as reasonable as we can with each other as a human being. We are going out of the way and putting together as much as we can. The more work we do, the better it will be for us. So, I am trying to be less choosy and reach out as much as I can. My team members have put a new set up where we can record online for multiple cities at the same time. Charity begins at home. I want to make sure that my immediate people who are depending on me and contributing to my music, I will try and get the momentum back.”

Sushant Singh Rajput’s death created a lot of cacophony in the industry and names of many movie mafias have been exposed. The nepotism debate has sparked again. When we asked Mithoon if the same thing exists in the music industry also (as Sonu Nigam pointed out in his video), the music composer gave a very neutral answer.

He said, “I can definitely say that like any other industry there are challenges in our industry as well. But if you see the history of our fraternity, there are lots of success stories. I acknowledge the fact that there are challenges and obstacles of various kinds but I would like to believe in the narrative that the human spirit can overcome these obstacles. There are stories and testimonies all around the world where people are shunned by so-called power. It takes patience and a lot out of you and those same people come running after you. So, I would like to encourage my brethren and people who are in this process, that, ‘don’t lose your determination. Fight back with your talent’.”

Mithoon also said that he doesn’t understand the concept of making 9-10 singers sing a song and then take someone else in the final song. “Sometimes, some voice may not work for a song, and you work with one or two singers, that sometimes happen but I don’t understand 9-10 singers made to sing one song. I don’t do that,” said Mithoon.
