Court Pulls Up Police for Not Submitting Report in Complaint Against Ekta Kapoor

A Mumbai court has issued a show cause notice to the city police for failing to submit an inquiry report on time in a case involving producer Ekta Kapoor. The case relates to a complaint about one of her web series, which allegedly disrespected Indian soldiers. The police were supposed to submit their report by May 9, but missed the deadline.

The Bandra magistrate’s court had earlier asked the Khar police to look into the complaint under Section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This section allows a magistrate to either carry out an inquiry themselves or ask the police to investigate before deciding whether to take further legal action.

The complaint was filed by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, also known as Hindustani Bhau. Along with Ekta Kapoor, he also named her streaming platform ALT Balaji, and her parents, Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor, in the complaint.

According to the complaint, which was filed through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, an episode in one of the web series on ALT Balaji showed a military officer involved in an inappropriate sexual act. Vikas claimed he saw the episode in May 2020.

The complaint further stated that the scene showed the officer wearing an Indian Army uniform with the national emblem, which the complainant believes insults the pride and dignity of the country. He called the portrayal “cheap and shameless.”

Due to the delay in submitting the report, the court has now asked the police to explain why they failed to meet the deadline. This case has drawn attention because it involves questions of respect toward national symbols and the portrayal of the armed forces in entertainment media.
