Muslim leaders to take legal action against 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'

While people and Bollywood celebs have been criticising CBFC’s decision of banning Prakash Jha’s ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha‘, here is some more trouble for the female-oriented movie.

The film might now get into legal trouble as a few Muslim leaders have raised concerns over the portrayal of the burkha that belongs to their community and its involvement in the film. The All India Muslim Tehwar Committee has decided to take up legal actions against the film and the chairman of the committee Ausaf Shahmeeri Khurram, confirmed the news. He said, “If somebody peeps into the burkha worn by our sisters and daughters, we won’t remain silent. Burkha is an Islamic tradition, and nobody has the right to talk about it in a negative way. Even Hindu women in various parts of the country – including Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh – opt for parda dhari (using a veil to cover the face). In such circumstances, why should they focus only on us with regard to such a sensitive, personal matter?”

A resolution is passed by the committee in the majilis-e-shura requesting 24-crore Muslim population of the country to boycott the movie. “We also plan to take legal action against the filmmakers. We are talking to lawyers and collecting documents related to the movie,” he added.

They are also happy with the CBFC’s decision of not giving certification to the film. Praising CBFC Chief, Pahlaj Nihalani, he says, “They have done the right thing. They should not allow public viewing of this film at any cost.”

Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the film featured Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthaku in lead roles and how their characters in the film explore their sexuality.
