Nawazuddin Siddiqui Criticises ‘Fake Films' In Bollywood

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has reignited a debate about the current state of Bollywood after criticising what he called “fake” films being produced today. During a recent public interaction, he shared his candid views on storytelling, truth in cinema, and filmmakers’ responsibility in influencing society.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui SLAMS Fake Films In Bollywood

Nawazuddin Siddiqui made these remarks while speaking at NDTV Creators’ Manch Season 2. He said, “Samaaj ko galat disha mein le jaane ki zarurat nahi hai. Sacchai bahut important hai, aur sacchai har insaan aaj ki date mein jaanta hai. Jis tarah ki filmein ban rahi hain, unke peeche ki sacchai kya hai, aap jaante hain, lekin aap bolenge nahi (There’s no need to lead society astray. Truth is very important, and today’s people understand the reality behind the films being made. But many choose not to speak out about it).”

Nawazuddin On Narrative-Driven Films

When asked about the rise of narrative-driven cinema, Nawazuddin dismissed the notion. “Nahi, jhoothi filmein ban rahi hain hamare yahan. Fake filmein ban rahi hain. Yeh sab jaante hain. Duniya mein kya ho raha hai, sab jaante hain. Asli sacchai kya hai, yeh bhi sab jaante hain. Kya jhooth phailaya ja raha hai, aur kya narrative set kiya ja raha hai. Sab iske baare mein jaante hain,” he added. (No, false films are being made here. Fake films are being produced. Everyone is aware of this. People know what’s happening in the world and what the truth really is. They also know what lies are being spread and what narrative is being crafted.)

Social Media Reactions

Nawazuddin didn’t specify any particular films; his comments quickly sparked speculation online. Clips from the event surfaced on social media, prompting users on X to debate which movies he might have been referencing. The Kerala Story and Dhurandhar were suggested by netizens. Both of which have faced criticism from certain viewers who labelled them propaganda-driven. One user called Nawazuddin’s comments a “tight slap” to such films. While another fan implied he was indirectly calling out their creators.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Upcoming Projects

Nawazuddin has been confirmed to join the cast of Tumbbad 2. It is the sequel to the 2018 horror-fantasy Tumbbad. Nawazuddin will play a complex, layered role that expands the story’s mythic scope.
