Tannishtha Chatterjee

Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee may have acted in several off-beat films, but she says many of such movies do not have well-written script.

“Not many scripts that come to me are good, they are not well-written. I am picky about the films that I do. I get 15-20 scripts and out of which there are very few that are interesting. I do collaborate with the team, give suggestions,” Tannishtha told PTI.

Also, releasing such films is still a problem today.

“Slowly things are changing. But distribution of independent films is still a problem. It is tough to release a film,” said Tannishtha, who is known for off-beat films “Jal”, “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain”, “Brick Lane”, among others.

The 35-year-old actress is looking forward to the release of her film “Chauranga”, which, according to her, has a good script.

“I play Dhaniya in the film. I am full of life, energy, don’t let things affect me,” she said.

“I think the love letter would be the USP of the film as everyone would connect to it…we all at some point have written letter to someone in life. I think people will identify with this aspect,” she said.

“Chauranga” is the debut film of writer-director Bikas Ranjan Mishra and it is produced by Onir and Sanjay Suri.

The film, set to release on January 8, was developed at a Screenwriters’ Lab organised by National Film Development Corporation. It has been getting lot of appreciation at various film festivals, like Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and the Mumbai Film Festival.

“The film is gripping and good. I am hopeful it will do well. I hope the recognition and awards the film has got at various festivals helps it in garnering attention here,” Tannishtha said.

“But the flip side is that people find festival going independent films as boring. But we have to live with it,” she added.
