Indians who presented Oscars before Deepika

Now, for the uninitiated, Deepika isn’t the first Indian celeb to be bestowed with this opportunity. In 2016, Priyanka Chopra, who is currently not just ruling Bollywood but Hollywood as well, made her debut at the Oscars red carpet. The actress sizzled in a white Zuhair Murad strapless gown. She took the stage to present the Oscar for Best Film Editing. She gave an award to Margarest Sixel for “Mad Max: Fury Road”.

And that’s not all! In 2021, Priyanka along with her husband-singer-actor Nick Jonas announced the Oscars 2021 nominations.

Before Priyanka Chopra, Indian model and actress Persis Khambatta had presented at the Oscars in the year 1980. Presis Khambatta was the first Indian celebrity to take the Oscars stage and make history. She was best known for her role as Lieutenant llia in the 1979 feature film Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Persis presented the Oscars along with William Shatner. William and Persis presented the Oscar for Documentary Feature for ‘Best Boy’ to Ira Wohl and for Documentary (Short Subject) for ‘Paul Robeson: Tribute to an Artist’ to Saul J. Turell.

Coming back to Oscars 2023, RRR song Naatu Naatu is nominated for Best Original Song, All That Breathes is nominated under Best Documentary Feature Category and The Elephant Whisperers is nominated for Best Documentary Short Film category.
