The Government of India announced the Padma Awards for 2026 on Sunday. They have recognised 131 civilians across the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri categories. The list features several prominent figures from public life. Notably, late actors Dharmendra and Satish Shah will receive posthumous honours. Dharmendra will receive the Padma Vibhushan, and Satish Shah will receive the Padma Shri.

In addition, Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty will be awarded the Padma Bhushan. Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik and the late advertising legend Piyush Pandey have been selected for the Padma Bhushan. R. Madhavan and Bengali cinema stalwart Prosenjit Chatterjee are among the Padma Shri recipients.

Veteran actress Hema Malini expressed her gratitude on X (formerly Twitter) regarding Dharmendra’s recognition. She shared, “So so proud that the government has recognised Dharam ji’s immense contribution to the film industry by bestowing on him the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award.”

About Padma Awards
The Padma Awards acknowledge excellence across various fields. It includes art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, industry, medicine, literature, education, sports, and civil service. Announced annually on Republic Day, the awards for 2026 were approved by the President. It comprises 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
This year’s list includes 90 women awardees: 6 individuals from foreign categories such as NRI, PIO, and OCI, and 16 posthumous honorees. Notable recipients include tennis legend Vijay Amritraj (Padma Bhushan), cricketer Rohit Sharma, women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and hockey player Savita Punia (all Padma Shri).
