Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has been appointed as the Chairman of National School of Drama (NSD). The National Award-winning actor was appointed as the chief by President Ram Nath Kovind. Reacting about his new position, Paresh, who also happens to be former BJP MP, said that it would be challenging but fun.

Today, Minister of Culture Prahlad Singh Patel tweeted, “Renowned artiste Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama by Rashtrapati Bhavan. I am glad that students and artistes will be able to take advantage of his talent. I congratulate him,”

The National School of Drama sharing the news and welcoming the actor on board tweeted, “We are glad to inform ” Hon’ble President of India @rashtrapatibhvn has appointed renowned actor & Padma Shri@sirpareshrawal as chairman of @nsd_india” NSD family welcome the legend to shower his guidance to NSD for achieving new heights.”

Reacting to his appointment, Rawal told PTI, “It will be challenging but fun. I will do my best because this is a field I know very well.”

For unversed, apart from films, Rawal is quite active in theatre especially Gujarati plays. Earlier talking about his love for theatre, the veteran actor had told Hindustan Times, “Theatre is my first love and I am the happiest on stage. My roots lie in theatre and it feels good to perform for audiences who appreciate and understand the essence of theatre.”

Reportedly, this post of NSD chairperson has been vacant since 2017. And now Rawal will be the Chairman for the next four years.
