Alankrita Shrivastava’s ‘Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’ is yet again the story of women helmed by the ace director. Alankrita has never shied away from breaking the stereotypes of women desires and yet again with ‘DKAWCS’, she had aced the themes of expressions of desire, gender stereotyping, patriarchy, sexual harassment and other vices of society with finesse.

Pavleen Gujral played a short but prominent character of Juhi because of whom Bhumi Pednekar’s character takes a U-turn in the move.

Talking about her character, Pavleen said,  “It was a very interesting character because she was living a dual life. The thing is that there are a lot of women who succumb to a life like that due to financial issue or family pressure or something like that and we never know. It was very interesting to play the character as director Alankrita Shrivastava gave me complete freedom. She was warm and nice and she said that to take Juhi’s character as I want to portray. Knowing the director giving so much freedom, it’s fun to work. At the look test also, we discussed the character and how integral it is to the film.”

She added, “Bhumi’s character takes a U-turn because of Juhi and then she creates her won path. I was very fortunate to be with one of those directors and actors like that. Bhumi is very professional, hardworking and it’s a delight working with her. We got along fabulously. She is a fun girl and I really admire her dedication. She used to know her lines and take minimal takes. We both share the love for Punjabi songs.”

Alankrita Shrivastava has always opened up about female sexuality in her previous movies as well. Pavleen was all praise for the director. She said, “Women desires are not different from men. There is such a big difference that we portray in our country when it comes to men feeling certain things and women feeling certain things. I think Alankrita is doing a fabulous job of talking about issues that people are too afraid to talk about. I’m sure people do want to talk about it but they are too conscious of what people are going to say and how it will be received. But the reality of the matter is that these issues exist, Then why not talk about it? I think she has been very brave and strong to take on topics like this in the past.”

“Actresses like Bhumi Pednekar and Konkona Sensharma have always portrayed their art for some cause or the other. This wave of cinema is here to stay and I hope more films are made which explore topics that are unexplored,” she concluded.
