‘PK’ breaks box-office records in China
Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan‘s hit film ‘PK’, was recently released in China. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has weaved it’s magic there too. Barely three days after its much-anticipated launch in China, ‘PK‘ is already breaking box-office records for a Bollywood film in the country.
‘PK’ starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles has raked in 35 million yuans (`35 crore) in just three days after its Friday launch. Not only that ‘PK’ has surpassed every Chinese film currently showing. This weekend, ‘PK’ even outdid Avengers in terms of occupancy, taking the number one spot. The film currently has 18,000 shows in China.
Gu Wancheng, partner (market strategy) for NPRG, the Chinese firm which introduced the movie to distributors here, said, “This is record-breaking for an Indian film in China, prior to ‘PK’, the top-grossing Indian film was ‘Dhoom 3‘ . That film took in 19 million yuans through its entire release in China. PK had made that amount by its second day Alone. ”
Gu added that, “the two main reasons behind PK’s success were a high-profile launch involving Hirani, Aamir Khan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra in Beijing and good reviews for an Indian film that has driven the audience to the theatres. Also Aamir Khan’s films are well liked by the Chinese audience, be it ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Dhoom 3’ and now ‘PK’.”
So looks like Aamir Khan has scored once again in China with his satire on religion ‘PK.
