Indian Boxing champion Mary Kom has created history today. Today, after bagging the 48 kg gold at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, Mary Kom has now become the first woman to win six boxing world titles! 35-year-old Mary Kom faced up against Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota.

Mary thanked her coaches and support staff for her win.

The entire nation is rejoicing Kom’s win and soon, congratulatory messages have started pouring in for the champion. Actress Priyanka Chopra, who had portrayed the boxer in her biopic of the same name, took to Twitter to congratulate her. An elated Priyanka wrote, “Wow! Only you could do it!! What an achievement… the first female boxer to win the #WorldChampionship for an unprecedented 6th time! Congratulations @MangteC… It’s a proud moment for the nation & you are and always will be my inspiration.. Here’s to #MagnificentMary ??”

The biopic of ‘Mary Kom’ that released in 2014 was directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in association with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The film opened up to some great reviews and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Mary Kom has now won gold at the World Championships in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010. She has also won a silver in 2001. She is also the only Indian female boxer to win a medal at the Olympics (bronze in London 2012).
