R Madhavan has been honoured with the Padma Shri in this year’s list of Padma Awards. The actor has responded to this recognition with humility and gratitude. Among the 75 individuals awarded this year, Madhavan, a prominent figure in the Tamil and Hindi entertainment industries for nearly three decades, described the honour as “beyond my wildest dreams.”

On the eve of Republic Day 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the recipients of this year’s Padma Awards. Later that day, Madhavan took to Instagram to share his reaction, dedicating the award to his family. He expressed that their unwavering support and belief have been vital to his success.

“I accept the Padma Shri with profound gratitude and humility. This honour, bestowed upon me, is beyond my wildest dreams, and I accept it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength. This recognition is only possible because of the blessings of my mentors, the goodwill of my well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and above all, the grace of the Almighty. Each of them has played an invaluable role in shaping my journey and guiding me to this moment,” he wrote.

Madhavan described the award as a “responsibility” and pledged to uphold it with “dignity, sincerity, and commitment.” He added, “I consider this not just an award, but a responsibility. I promise to carry this honour with integrity and dedication to the values it represents. My heart is filled with gratitude for this extraordinary recognition, and I hope to continue serving with humility and commitment in the years ahead.”

Looking ahead, R Madhavan will be formally conferred the award by President Droupadi Murmu later this year. A celebrated actor across multiple languages, Madhavan first gained prominence in Tamil cinema with Mani Ratnam’s romantic drama Alai Payuthey. He made his Bollywood debut the following year with Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein.

Most recently, he starred in Dhurandhar by Aditya Dhar, which is the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
