Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf were supposed to make their debut exclusively on Amazon Prime Video instead of in theatres as per producer Dinesh Vijan. The last-minute decision, reportedly due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, upset many theatre owners. In response, leading theatre chain PVRInox filed a legal case against Vijan’s Maddock Films, demanding Rs 60 crore in damages and seeking to stop the film’s digital release.
Bhool Chuk Maaf To Release In Theatres On May 23
The situation escalated over the weekend, but now there’s a major update. According to sources, the court has given its decision, and Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release in cinemas on May 23, 2025. “Maddock Films is resuming the film’s marketing campaign from May 15,” as per Pinkvilla sources.
Interestingly, the film will have a shorter-than-usual OTT release window. Typically, Hindi films arrive on streaming platforms about eight weeks after their theatrical release. However, Bhool Chuk Maaf will debut on Prime Video just two weeks later, on June 6, 2025, as directed by the court. This is considered a special case and won’t apply to other films going forward.
