Rajpal Yadav Granted Bail In Rs 9 Cr Cheque Bounce Case

It’s a moment of happiness for Rajpal Yadav, his family, friends and fans. As per media reports, the Delhi HC granted interim suspension of sentence to the actor in his debt and cheque bounce case after he deposited a total of Rs 1.5 crore in the respondent’s account. It has been confirmed that this bail has been granted to him to attend his niece’s wedding.

The reports also state that Rajpal has been given bail, with the HC suspending the sentence until the next hearing. The next hearing will take place on March 18. On this date, the actor has been asked to appear before the court either physically or through video call.

About The Cheque Bounding Case

The case began in 2010, when Rajpal Yadav had borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. Upon its release, the film boomed at the box office, leading to the actor suffering severe loss and being unable to repay the loan. Over time, bounced cheques, interest, and penalties caused the outstanding amount to rise from the borrowed Rs 5 crore to nearly Rs 9 crore.

The dispute escalated legally, and in April 2018, a Magisterial Court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha. The actor was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment. This conviction was upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019, after which Yadav approached the Delhi High Court in appeal.

In 2024 the Delhi HC directed the actor to show sincere measures to repay the heavy dues. However in February 2026, the court ordered the actor to surrender, as there were multiple breaches of undertakings to repay the amount. Prior to his surrender, the actor made a couple of deposits, including two demand drafts of Rs 75 lakh in October 2025 and a later offer of Rs 25 lakh with a fresh payment plan.

Following his imprisonment in Tihar Jail, several Bollywood actors decided to give financial aid to Rajpal Yadav and even made public appeals to other to help him. Some stars who offered support to Yadav during this trying time include Sonu Sood, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan and Gurmeet Choudhary. Many singers and filmmakers also gave him advance payments and cast him in their upcoming projects, indirectly offering him aid.
