Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar The Revenge released less than a week ago and is on path to enter the Rs 1000 crore club globally in just a couple of days. While several actors from industries across the nation have been praising the film, one of the many filmmakers going all out and showering love on it is director Ram Gopal Varma. After sharing his unfiltered views and opinions about the Ranveer Singh-led espionage thriller on social media, RGV has now revealed that he’s no longer making Sarkar 4.
For the unversed, Varma had earlier revealed that he planned on beginning shooting Sarkar 4 with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan from April. He has now stated that owing to the impact of Dhurandhar and its sequel, he now plans on making a new film, Syndicate. Read on to know all he said.
Ram Gopal Varma Admits Dhurandhar’s Success Has Massively Influenced Him
Talking about the impact of the Durandhar film, Bollywood Hungama reported Ram Gopal Varma saying, “See, I don’t think Sarkar or any other gangster film will work anymore not after Dhurandhar. Earlier, all my gangster films were inspired by The Godfather, be it Satya, Company or Sarkar. Or else I was making films just for the heck of it. Why did I make Daud or Phoonk, or all those other films? Because I just wanted to keep making movies. I was cocky and arrogant enough to think I just needed to go on set and the film would come together.”
Stating that the Aditya Dhar films have influenced him and reignited his creativity, Varma stated, “People are asking me why I keep talking about Dhurandhar. It’s because of Aditya Dhar’s honesty of motive. He made Dhurandhar because he had a story to tell, not because he wanted to prove a point. I want to reset my clock. I feel about Aditya Dhar the way I felt about Steven Spielberg in my college days. Yes, I am in awe of Aditya Dhar. What’s wrong with that? Even at 68, I can be a fan, can’t I?”
RGV: I’m no Longer Making Sarkar 4., I’m Making Syndicate
In the same chat, Ram Gopal Varma added that he will now channel his renewed creative energy into a new project and not not Sarkar 4. He said, “I feel as charged as I did when I made Shiva and Satya. So yes, I am no longer making Sarkar 4. I am making Syndicate. No, I am not trying to make another Dhurandhar no one can do that, not even Aditya. But I am plunging into Syndicate with the same sincerity of purpose. I don’t know how it will turn out, but believe me, it will be my most honest work since Satya.”
The Dhurandhar films – both written, directed and produced by Aditya Dhar, featured Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun in pivotal roles. While the December released amassed over Rs 1350 crores at the worldwide box office, The Revenge has already collected nearly Rs 850 crore in less than 7 days.
