Ranbir Kapoor On Being Sceptical About Animal

According to India Today reports, in a recent interaction during the film’s promotional activities ahead of its Japan release on February 13, 2026, Ranbir spoke candidly about his hesitation. He told the media that when Vanga first narrated the story to him, “Found the character extremely scary to approach as an actor.” This stark departure from the romantic and coming-of-age roles he was known for made him pause before signing on. However, Ranbir also credited the director’s belief in him as a key factor in eventually taking the plunge. “But his confidence instilled confidence in me, too.”

Ranbir explained that while he had often been typecast in ‘lover boy’ and youthful roles earlier in his career, the intense narrative of Animal offered something radically different, he found Ranvijay to be someone who is “Protective, volatile, and deeply emotional.” He shared that the emotion of protecting family and the family story embedded in the script made the role compelling, even if it felt intimidating at first. Although dark and gritty, Ranbir believed that audiences across the world could connect with the raw emotional core of the film.

What Convinced Ranbir Kapoor For Animal

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who was also present at the event, revealed how he convinced Ranbir Kapoor to take the role. The filmmaker shared that after the narration, he could see the actor being “really scared.” The director shared it took him a while to convince Ranbir, and only then he got a head start, “It took a while for me, after the first narration, to give him the bound script, and only then did we get a complete yes to go ahead.”

Despite his initial fear, Ranbir’s risk paid off spectacularly. Animal went on to become a massive hit, earning widespread attention and box-office success while sparking conversations about its themes, style and the sheer intensity of his performance.
