Rishi Kapoor’s Family Copyrights Actor’s Name
According to an India Today report, the Kapoor family recently obtained permission to copyright the Rishi Kapoor’s name. This means that anyone wishing to use the late actor’s name in a professional, commercial, or public context would need to obtain prior approval from his family. The portal quoted a source saying, “As per the copyright, anyone wanting to use the name Rishi Kapoor or mention it in any capacity would need prior permission from the family.”
The report further suggests that the Kapoor did this to ensure that Rishi Kapoor’s name and legacy are not ‘misused’ after his death. The source noted that the family’s move reflects a global trend, where kin or estates retain control over how a late artist’s name and legacy are used or portrayed across public and commercial platforms.
In the past few months, several Bollywood celebrities have taken legal measures against the misuse of their identities. This list includes celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Salman Khan, Kajol, Shatrughan Sinha, Abhishek Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar and others.
