In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Saif opened up about his role in ‘Taanaji’. He is reuniting with Ajay Devgn after Omkara (2006). He said, “I respect Ajay and like the way, he looks at life. I’m happy to be a part of this huge historical which will be a screen extravaganza, a post-Baahubali kind of experience in 3D. Ajay loves cinema, is a great producer, and this is the right film to make today as it highlights patriotism and heroism. Kids will love it, so will the rest of the country.

Saif didn’t divulge much about his role in ‘Taanaji’. He said, “Let’s just call him an anti-hero. It’s a cool part and I’ve had already started shooting.” What a coincidence! Saif played the antagonist in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Omkara’ where Ajay was the main lead. Earlier, the two actors have worked in ‘Kachche Dhaage’ (1999), ‘LOC Kargil’ (2003) and ‘Omkara’ (2006).

Earlier, there were reports that Saif Ali Khan will be playing the role Udaybhan Rathod, the Rajput officer and fort keeper appointed by Jai Singh, chief of the Mughal army under Aurangzeb. Directed by Om Raut, ‘Taanaji’ is slated to release in 2019 under the banner of T-series.
