On Friday, Islam withdrew his earlier bail application, which had been submitted to a sessions court in April. He instead filed a fresh plea before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Bandra, alleging that the police did not follow proper legal procedures when arresting him. As a result, he argued, his arrest should be declared illegal.

The court has directed the police to submit a response and scheduled the next hearing for May 13. The incident occurred on January 16, when Saif Ali Khan was attacked inside his 12th-floor apartment in Bandra. The intruder reportedly stabbed the 54-year-old actor multiple times. Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He was discharged five days later.

Police arrested Shariful Islam two days after the attack. The case remains under investigation, and the court will now examine the legality of the accused’s arrest in the coming hearing.
