Kaalakaandi

Even though the CBFC Chief, Pahlaj Nihalani has been replaced by Prasoon Joshi, the movies that were seen by the board before this change happened, have been facing issues. And the latest to face the wrath is Akshat Verma’s ‘Kaalakaandi’, starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. If sources are to be believed, then no less than 73 cuts have been ordered by the CBFC, in the movie.

A source from the CBFC revealed to a leading daily, “‘Kaalakaandi’ makes ‘Delhi Belly’ look like a Disney film. When ‘Delhi Belly’ was released there were waves of shock and disbelief among the public at the torrent of profanities. But ‘Kaalakaandi’ sets an all-new benchmark of expletives. We at the CBFC heard gaalis that we had never heard of and never imagined existed. The film is a dictionary of dirty abuses. I am sure it will prove highly educational if the cuts are restored.” (Also Read:Wow! Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Kaalakaandi’ teaser crosses the mark of 2 million views on YouTube)

The sources further say that there won’t be any immediate or major changes with Prasoon Joshi’s entry as the Chief of CBFC until the changes which were suggested by Shyam Benegal’s committee are implemented. Now because of so many cuts being ordered by the CBFC, the makers have decided to postpone the release date from the scheduled date of Sept 8, 2017. The new date should be announced very soon.

When ex-CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nihalani was asked about the matter, he replied to The Quint, saying, “Since I am no longer there to censor films the makers of ‘Kaalaakandi’ can happily go to the Revising Committee and get all the cuts restored. They now have very liberal board members who I am sure would do justice to whatever comes to them.” Now let’s wait to see what the Tribunal decides to do about this.
