Ramesh Sippy’s 1975 classic, Sholay is a cult classic loved by generations for its evergreen storytelling, unforgettable characters, and timeless music. The film – that stars Amitabh Bachchan as Jai and late Dharmendra as Veeru, was all set to have a much-anticipated 4K screening at the have the ongoing 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Sholay’s 4K Screening Cancelled

Just days after the devastating news of Dharmendra’s demise made the headlines, fans of the actor and the cult film have been left left saddened once more as the 4K screening of Sholay got cancelled. As reported by HT City, the reason for the much-anticipated screening not taking place anymore is technical glitches. A source in the know simply stated, “Technical glitches from the makers’ side.”

Expected to walk the red carpet for the same were director Ramesh Sippy and the film’s lead actress Hema Malini.

The remastered version Sholay was first screened at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, where Dharmendra’s son, Bobby Deol walked the red carpet in his father’s stead. Ever since is TIFF screening, fans had been eagerly waiting for its India premiere. The excitement for the premiere was not only owing to the technical restoration but also since the original ending shot by director Ramesh Sippy was being screened.

Now, with the IFFI premiere cancelled, Indian fans of Sholay will have to wait till December 12 when the film releases in theatres. While the screening stands cancelled, Ramesh’s session on 50 years of his film will take place as scheduled.

IFFI Honours Dharmendra At Closing Ceremony

As per another report, the 56th International Film Festival of India will pay a special tribute to Dharmendra at its closing ceremony later this week. The veteran star, who passed away on Monday at the age of 89, was also fondly remembered with a minute-long silence during the closing of the Film Bazaar segment of the festival.

Bollywood Hungama reproted Prakash Magdum – the Managing Director of NFDC, confirming that a dedicated homage to Dharam Ji will be part of the main closing ceremony.
