He was in the hospital after being diagnosed with Covid-19 in August. He tested negative on September 4. His son who has been giving the health updates of his father addressed the media and said, “My dad breathed his last at 1:04 pm. Thank you everyone for your prayers. My dad will live long till his fans remember him.”

SP Balasubrahmanyam is survived by his wife Savitri and his two children – daughter Pallavi and son SP Charan.

For over a month, he was on ECMO and ventilator support. His death is a huge loss not only to his family but also for both South and Hindi film industries. He was not only a terrific singer but also an actor, music director, dubbing artist and film producer. He was honoured with the National Award six times. Also, he was conferred Padma Shri Award in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011.

Fondly called SPB, he will be remembered for his huge contribution.

May his soul rest in peace and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
