Sunita Ahuja Reveals Hema Malini Organised Bhagwad Gita Path As Tribute To Dharmendra

“Hema ji had arranged a prayer with Bhagavad Gita and bhajans. We all listened to the bhajans, and I couldn’t stop crying in front of Hema ji,” Sunita shared to SCREEN. When asked about how Hema Malini is coping, she said, “What can one say… it’s a huge loss. He was such a legend. I couldn’t stop crying. He was my childhood crush. I respect their family immensely. I am truly broken right now.”

Reflecting on her early interactions with Dharmendra, Sunita recalled performing with him on stage. “I had performed with Dharam ji on Sony TV for the song ‘Chalkaye Jaam’. Sharing the stage with him was very special for me. I respect him and his family a lot. I’m very close to Esha Deol too… my entire family is. We are big fans of Dharmendra ji.”

She further revealed, “In fact, I married Govinda because I felt he resembled Dharmendra. He’s not as handsome; Dharmendra ji was the most handsome man in the industry. He was a true He-Man of cinema and worked till the very end. He was a genuine desi, a large-hearted man.”

Sunita also mentioned meeting Dharmendra a few months ago during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. “I met him two months earlier during Ganpati. I went with my son, Yashvardhan. Esha had invited me for Ganpati. When Yash was born, I always wished he would have qualities and looks like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.”

She attended the prayer meet with her son, Yashvardhan Ahuja. Others present included Mahima Chaudhary and Bharat Takhtani, the former husband of Esha Deol.

Dharmendra’s Passing Away, Prayer Meet

Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most beloved icons, passed away on November 24 due to age-related health issues. After a brief hospitalisation at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, he was moved to his family’s home in Juhu, where he continued receiving treatment.

The Deol family organised a prayer gathering on Thursday, which was attended by many industry stalwarts, including Shah Rukh Khan and his family, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Malaika Arora, and others, all paying their respects. The event concluded with singer Sonu Nigam performing some of Dharmendra’s most cherished songs, celebrating his legacy through music and memories.
