Sushmita Sen had shocked the entire nation when she decided to adopt her first child Renee, decades ago. But she also created a huge change in the perception and outlook that Indians had towards adoption. Today, with means like adoption and surrogacy helping people find a family, Sushmita and her daughters Renee and Alisah Sen have completely turned poster girls behind this movement.

With Renee setting eyes on the silver screen, one has been waiting for the little girl to come out in the open. But she chose a rather unconventional path – a very un-starkid route, if we must admit – to reach out to the audience. Instead of a big feature film, she signed on a short film – Suttabaazi – as its main female protagonist. While chatting up with Renee over the same, we asked her a few questions and she answered them with all heart.

Renee doesn’t feel there’s a difference in between biological or adopted. Sushmita had once said in an interview that she told Renee she was special because she was born from her heart and not her tummy. Renee smiles, “I beg to differ when my mother says I started this discussion. I think she did. There are so many people that want to be parents and today, everyone can have a family. Whether it’s a single mother, single father, people are choosing to be parents. People are slowly now opening up to that idea and there’s nothing more beautiful than that. I have seen love in its purest form and I don’t get this difference between being adopted or biological. It’s only a term for me.”

Mom Sushmita also gave Renee the choice to know and meet her biological parents once she’s 18 but the latter decided against it. Ask Renee about it and she tells us, “I don’t feel the need to. My mom is my everything. I also understand that my biological parents might have had some circumstances. But that’s history and this is my family, this is who I’m. Why should I kick all the blessings in the face? It doesn’t make sense to me. I mean no disrespect to anyone who wants to know about it. Please go ahead if it makes you happy; but it doesn’t make me happy.”
