Sushmita Sen

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is one of those few celebrities, who is not obsessed with stardom and takes one day at a time. The diva is a very jovial personality and always has a smile on her face. Sushmita is also a quite articulate and well-read person. Now, the actress appeared on film critic Rajeev Masand’s show ‘Women We Love’ and spoke her heart out.

As we all know, Sushmita Sen won the Miss Universe title in 1994 and it was indeed a remarkable feat. Now, the ‘Main Hoon Na’ actress almost didn’t make it to the Miss Universe event due to losing her passport.

Recalling the incident Sushmita said her passport was in fact given to Anupama Verma – a very famous model of that time who was also coordinating an event in Bangladesh. However, just a couple of days before leaving for the Philippines, she couldn’t find Sushmita’s passport. Sush in the interview said, “The timing was scary and I had to then go crying to my dad.” Times of India, in fact, suggested to her that she should go ahead with Miss World competition and let Aishwarya Rai take her place in Miss Universe.

Sushmita further narrated the incident and said, “I only cried in front of my father. And I said, Baba, I am not going for anything else. I rightfully deserve to go for this. If I can’t go, nobody else will go for it.” Later on, it was Rajesh Pilot (late Congress politician) intervened in the matter and resolved the issue.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, in the end, ended up winning Miss World title. Fascinating anecdote by Sushmita, isn’t it?
