Usha Mangeshkar Expresses Grief Over Sister Asha Bhosle’s Demise

Usha Mangeshkar has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of her sister, legendary singer Asha Bhosle, while also reflecting on her final moments and the fulfilling nature of her last wish. The youngest of the four Mangeshkar sisters (after Lata Mangeshkar, Meena Khadikar, and Asha Bhosle, and elder to Hridaynath Mangeshkar), Usha said the family never expected such an abrupt loss. She recalled Asha Bhosle’s strong-willed nature and dedication to work.

Usha Mangeshkar, while sharing her sorrow, said, “Asha Tai is no more. We never imagined that she would leave us so suddenly. But the way she was, she would always say, ‘I will never sit down. I will stand and will keep working’, and that’s exactly how she left.”

Speaking further to IANS, she added that while the moment is heartbreaking, there is a sense of peace knowing her sister passed away in the manner she desired. She continued, “In a way, it feels good that her wish was fulfilled. But of course, it is a moment of grief for our family, and for India as well.”

As a tribute, Usha Mangeshkar mentioned she plans to dedicate a Marathi song in her memory. She noted, “A great singer has passed away. And, there will never be another like her. Neither Lata Mangeshkar nor Asha Bhosle. I will dedicate a Marathi song to her Jivalaga rahile re.”

She began her playback journey in the early 1950s, making her debut with Badi Dhoom Dham Se Meri Bhabhi Aayi.

About Asha Bhosle’s Demise

Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on April 12. She had reportedly been unwell for some time. The veteran singer was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier after suffering cardiac and respiratory complications. Following her demise, several celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Kajol, took to social media to mourn her loss and pay tribute. Singers Shreya Ghoshal and Rahul Vaidya also paid a musical tribute to the evergreen voice. Her mortal remains were kept for a final glimpse at her residence, Casa Grande, Lower Parel. The singer’s last rites took place at 4 pm on Monday.
