Varun Dhawan Recalls Lower-Middle Class Upbringing And Childhood Struggles

Varun Dhawan recently reflected on his modest upbringing, sharing that he experienced more love than material comfort during his early years. Despite being the son of filmmaker David Dhawan, the actor revealed that his family initially belonged to a lower-middle-class background before his father found significant success in the industry. Varun Dhawan Reveals He Initially Belonged To A Lower Middle Class Family

Speaking on an episode of Be A Man, Yaar!, Varun Dhawan opened up about his childhood and his father’s demanding work schedule. He said, “Mujhe bachpan mein pyaar bahut mila as compared to wealth. Because we were not very well-to-do as we became later. We were very lower middle class because my dad’s career hadn’t taken off to that level.”

He further shared that financial limitations never deeply affected him, recalling simple aspects of his upbringing, including commuting to school by auto. He said, “Aap zameen pe sula lo yaa bed pe, it didn’t matter. Papa toh ghar pe hote hi nahi the. He was working round the clock doing 2 movies at a time. Mumma keh deti thi yeh khaana joh tum khaa rahe ho yeh papa kaam kar rahe hain isliye khaa rahe ho, aise dialogues sunne mil jaate the. Yaa koi film nahi chali toh Dad ki yeh film nahi chali, ab aage pata nahi kya karenge so you have to cut down on your expenses.”

David Dhawan’s Work Front

David Dhawan began his career as an editor with Saaransh (1984) before transitioning into direction. He made his directorial debut with Taaqatwar in 1989, starring Sanjay Dutt and Govinda, but gained widespread recognition with the success of Aankhen in 1993. He went on to establish himself as a leading filmmaker in comedy, delivering several hits with Govinda, including Biwi No.1, Coolie No.1, Raja Babu, and Hero No.1, among others.

Varun Dhawan’s Professional Journey

Varun, meanwhile, carved his own path in the industry. After starting as an assistant director, he was launched by Karan Johar with Student of the Year, which marked the beginning of a successful acting career. He has since featured in films such as Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Badlapur, and Main Tera Hero.

Their Upcoming Exciting Projects

The father-son duo are now gearing up for the release of their upcoming film Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, along with Mouni Roy and Rohit Saraf in key roles. Originally slated for a June 4 release, the film has now been postponed to June 12 to avoid a box office clash with Yash’s Toxic.
