Anil Kapoor, Veere Di Wedding

In the month of May, Anil Kapoor had moved the Bombay High Court to stop Make My Day Entertainment, makers of Jimmy Sheirgill-starrer ‘Veerey Ki Wedding’. This because the title of their movie bore a resemblance to his home production ‘Veere Di Wedding’ starring Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar. However, back then the court ruled in favour of Jimmy Sheirgill’s movie as it didn’t find enough substance in Anil Kapoor’s argument as the cast and story were entirely different.

Post this, Anil Kapoor Film Co Pvt Ltd. (AKFC) filed an appeal in Bombay High Court which is still pending. In the meantime, Make My Day Entertainment filed a suit against AKFC in the Civil Court, Rohtak against AKFC. AKFC then filed a petition in Supreme Court asking for a transfer of the suit which is pending before the Rohtak court on the grounds that the suit filed in Rohtak is for the purpose of harassment. On Friday 3rd November, the Supreme Court called for a stay on proceedings in the Rohtak Court against Anil Kapoor over the film’s title. However, the proceedings before the Bombay High Court that were initiated by Anil Kapoor’s company would continue. (Also Read: Sonam and Kareena are in full swag in ‘Veere Di Wedding’ poster)

Senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi has stated that the proceedings were initiated by Make My Day Entertainment as a counter to the proceedings initiated by AKFC before the High Court over the title. Anil Kapoor stated that the case before Rohtak court was false and had ulterior motives so as to harass their family. ‘Veere Di Wedding’ directed by Shashanka Ghosh is slated to release May 18, 2018.
