Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has reportedly been detained by police in connection with a scam involving a fraud of Rs 30 crore. The arrest was carried out during a joint operation conducted by the Rajasthan and Mumbai police. According to recent reports, Bhatt was taken into custody in relation to an alleged fraud case that also involves his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, along with six other individuals. The case was initiated after a prominent IVF doctor filed a complaint against them.
Vikram Bhatt, Wife Shwetambari Bhatt Arrested In Rs 30 Cr IVF Fraud Case
The arrest took place at Bhatt’s sister-in-law’s residence, with authorities planning to seek a transit remand from the Bandra Court so Bhatt can be transferred to Udaipur for further investigation. A week before his arrest, Udaipur Police had issued a lookout notice against Vikram Bhatt, Shwetambari Bhatt, and six others, warning them not to leave the country. The notice was in connection with an alleged Rs 30 crore fraud against Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of the Indira Group of Companies. The notice instructed the accused to appear before the Udaipur Police by December 8.
Details Of The Fraud Case
An FIR was filed in Udaipur about 20 days ago, accusing eight individuals—including Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt—of defrauding Dr Murdia. The complaint alleges that the couple lured the doctor with false promises of earning Rs 200 crore. The investigation is currently being led by the Bhopalpura police.
According to police reports, Dr Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, registered the complaint after being approached to produce a biopic about his late wife. He reportedly contacted Dinesh Kataria from Udaipur for assistance. During their meeting at Vrindavan Studio in Mumbai on April 25, 2024, Kataria introduced Dr Murdia to Vikram Bhatt.
Bhatt allegedly assured the doctor that he would handle all aspects of the film production and requested payments accordingly. Bhatt claimed that his wife and daughter were involved as associates in the project. It is also notable that Bhatt has registered a firm, VSB LLP, in his wife Shwetambari’s name.
Vikram’s Tumko Meri Kasam
Earlier this year, Vikram Bhatt directed the film Tumko Meri Kasam, starring Anupam Kher, Ishwak Singh, Adah Sharma, and Esha Deol. The movie was inspired by the life of Dr Ajay Murdia, the founder of Indira IVF, further linking Bhatt to the ongoing case.
