Not Rajkummar Rao but this actor will star opposite Deepika Padukone in Laxmi Agarwal biopic

This year leggy beauty Deepika Padukone left the critics and audience surprised with her terrific performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’. Post that film the actress took a break and got married to her beau Ranveer Singh. After ‘Padmaavat’ Deepika will be seen in filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s next, which is a biopic based on the life of the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

Just a few months back the actress came on board for the film and has even decided to co-produce it along with Meghna. Now for quite some time, speculations regarding who will be starring opposite Deepika in the film have been doing the rounds. Reports of actors like Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana being in the race to star opposite Deepika in this biopic were also doing the rounds.

However today finally the makers of this biopic announced that ‘A Death in the Gunj‘ actor Vikrant Massey has been roped in opposite Deepika. Confirming the news director Meghna Gulzar told Mumbai Mirror, “The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since ‘Raazi’, after seeing him in ‘A Death in the Gunj’. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part.”
