The #MeToo movement has been reaping the desired results in Bollywood. With alleged offenders being replaced or asked to step down from their projects, this move has given courage to every survivor to come out and share their story. Director-producer Vinta Nanda too came forward and accused veteran actor Alok Nath of raping her 19 years ago.

After Vinta made these accusations, several other actresses too came forward and accused Nath of sexually harassing and misbehaving with them. Reacting on the allegations made against Alok Nath’s complaint, Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) have now expelled the actor after due diligence and consideration.

CINTAA took to Twitter and posted, “In view of the various allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Mr. Alok Nath, after due diligence and consideration, the Exec. Committee of #cintaa has decided to expel him from the Association. @sushant_says @renukashahane @FIA_actors @sagaftra @RichaChadha”

Reacting on this news, Vinta Nanda told The Quint, “It’s a very big step for an industry body to take and it’s a landmark and unprecedented step. It’s a great move in terms of establishing a system and sending a very clear message that everyone is accountable. No matter how late or early it is, if you are a part of an industry, you are accountable. This was not the case in the past when everyone was acting with impunity and getting away with anything. It’s much larger than just my case. It’s a very broad statement, all-encompassing the many complaints that have come.”

We hope more such swift actions are taken against all the offenders.
