Veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is stepping into the future of storytelling with his new science fiction series called Warlord. What makes this project unique is that it’s being made entirely with generative AI, in partnership with Mumbai-based Studio Blo.

Shekhar Kapur Drops Warlord Teaser Featuring Jellyfish Spaceships

Warlord is a mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and romance. The main idea explores the question: “Can love exist across dimensions?” The teaser shows powerful, dream-like images—such as a jellyfish-shaped spaceship, a glowing woman turning into energy, and a mysterious figure watching from afar. But Warlord is more than just a show.

Shekhar Kapur wants it to be the beginning of a larger “living universe” where creators from around the world can join in. He took to Instagram and shared the teaser of the film, and wrote, “Can love exist across dimensions? Warlord is a groundbreaking international sci-fi AI feature series, created by visionary filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.”

Shekhar Kapur and Studio Blo plan to share character designs and sets from the series with the public. Anyone can use these in their own stories for just one cent per use, as long as their work also stays open to others. This open-source model hopes to make high-quality content more accessible and encourage global collaboration.

Dipankar Mukherjee, CEO of Studio Blo, shared that this project pushed their team creatively and technically. They had to rethink their tools and methods to make a full series using AI and to support this new, shared approach to intellectual property.

Kapur believes AI can help small creators compete with big studios. With Warlord, he’s creating a platform where people everywhere can tell stories together, without the usual limits of budget and production.

Known for films like Masoom, Mr. India, and Elizabeth, Kapur is now also the director of the International Film Festival of India. With Warlord, he is opening a new chapter in his career embracing innovation and inviting the world to join in.
