Ashmit Patel has been working in the Hindi film industry for more than two decades now. He rose to fame with his stint in the reality show Bigg Boss 4 and films like Murder, Nazar, and Jai Ho. Ashmit has returned to mainstream acting once again with his recently released web series, titled State v/s Ahuja on Watcho Exclusives. In a candid chat with Bollywood Bubble, the actor speaks about the series, sister Ameesha Patel, Jai Ho’s failure, and much more. Excerpts:

Ashmit on playing a superstar in State v/s Ahuja

In State v/s Ahuja, Ashmit Patel portrays the character of Ansh Ahuja, a Bollywood actor who is accused of rape. Talking about how he prepped for the role and was essaying a superstar challenging for him, Ashmit says, “Every actor you see in a public space, you are not seeing the real person. I’ve seen other actors, my colleagues, always put on this little bit of an act. But when you meet them in a relaxed space, that person is completely different. And I think that is a guard and a shield that a lot of actors have to put on to protect themselves. However, I’m not someone who puts on this facade of being someone else when I’m in a public space. But having said that, I have been in situations like this character has been and I know what it is to protect yourself as an actor and walk with that strut and swag as an actor.”

About Jai Ho’s failure and life after Bigg Boss 4

Ashmit made his Bollywood debut in 2003 with Inteha. But it was after Bigg Boss 4 he got recognition. Talking about whether he follows the show now, the actor avers, “I didn’t even watch my own episodes. I don’t watch Bigg Boss since I find it too negative. Also, I am not able to deal with fighting and everything happening as I get very disturbed by it. Going through all of that for three months was enough of an experience.”

Post Bigg Boss, he shared screen space with Salman Khan in Jai Ho. Unfortunately, the film didn’t perform well at the box office. Speaking about how despite Salman Khan and Tabu being a part of the film tanked, Ashmit avers, “Jai Ho unfortunately didn’t do that well as we expected it. But definitely when you’re acting in a big film with a superstar like Salman Khan, there are a lot of eyeballs. But still it didn’t get noticed.”

Ashmit Patel on congratulating Ameesha Patel post Gadar 2 success

For those unversed, Ashmit is the brother of Gadar 2 actress Ameesha Patel. The siblings have been in news for their troubled relationship. However, it was later clarified everything is fine between them but still they never appeared together. Revealing whether he congratulated Ameesha after Gadar 2 success, Ashmit shares, “Of course I did”. He further added, “I believe that blood is always thicker than water. And the kind of business the movie did was just unbelievable. Looking at the response, my parents and I were euphoric. But I have always preferred keeping my personal life private. I don’t like to my family or relationships under the spotlight as I don’t think it needs unnecessary attention. My dealings with my close people are very, very private. So I don’t like to display it.”
