daisy shah, salman khan, jai ho, ek tha tiger

Daisy Shah has been making headlines lately because of the stunt-based reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi. From her fight with Archana Gautam to bond with Shiv Thakare, Daisy has been grabbing attention for multiple reasons. Well, Daisy Shah made her big Bollywood debut with Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho.

Speaking of that, Daisy sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble and in the latest episode of Let’s Talk With Bollywood Bubble Podcast, Daisy reacted to the box office failure of her debut film. The actress mentioned that she considers Jai Ho a ‘hit’ and also shared the reason behind it.

Daisy talks about Jai Ho’s box office failure

When asked if Jai Ho’s box office failure affected her, Daisy said, “So, what happens is lot of people royally ignored the facts, the film. Tiger had released before Jai Ho and it made Rs 198 crores at the box office. It was declared as the massive hit and then Jai Ho was coming in.” The actress added that Salman has a huge fan following so when Jai Ho released his fans thought it’ll make around 200-250 crores at box office. However, much to fans’ surprise, Jai Ho went on to make Rs 138 crores which was less in numbers as compared to Ek Tha Tiger.

Adding to that, Daisy said, “I understand that the normal public did not know this and they did not care ki kya hai kya nahi (What is and what not) but the critics, the people who are from the industry, they knew the fact that the ticket rates were not hiked at all. Our ticket rates even on the weekends over 130-150 crores and not more than that. It was a deliberate or conscious decision from the makers the reason being the film’s tagline said people’s man and clearly Salman Khan’s words that a people’s man cannot make a hole in a common man’s pocket.” The actress also mentioned that Jai Ho was made on a budget of Rs 60 crores but it ended up making Rs 136 crores at the box office.

Daisy considers Jai Ho a ‘hit’

Furthermore, she went on to add, “For me, I considered it as a hit. The reason why it was not declared a hit is because the film was compared to the budget and the box office collection which his (Salman Khan) previous film had made without realizing that Tiger relatively was a bigger budget film than Jai Ho. Comparing these two films (Jai Ho and Ek Tha Tiger) is utter nonsense. You’re not supposed to that.”

For the unversed, Ek Tha Tiger was released on 15th August, 2012 and Jai Ho hit the theatres on 24th January, 2014. Daisy played the role of Pinky in Jai Ho.
