Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Day 1: Rishab Shetty Starrer Grosses Massive Response; Collects Rs 60 Cr On Opening Day

To every great story, there’s a past; there’s an origin story. And until we have seen the roots, we haven’t seen the whole. So, if Kantara (2022) was a legend, its highly anticipated prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, is finally here and has managed to satisfy its audience to a large extent at the box office. With bigger aspirations and grander visuals, actor-director Rishab Shetty gave answers to everything that the first instalment left open.

Although the 2022 film was a pan-India blockbuster that grossed Rs 407.82 crore against an approximate budget of Rs 16 crore, Kantara: Chapter 1 opened with Rs 60 crore on Dussehra. With this, it overtook Chhaava but is trailing behind Rajinikanth’s Coolie (Rs 65 crore) and They Call Him OG (Rs 63 crore). Even in Hindi, the film is expected to earn Rs 19.5 crore, which makes it the second-highest opening ever for a Kannada film in Hindi, after KGF Chapter 2, which earned a massive Rs 54 crore net.

Bankrolled by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under the banner of Hombale Films, Kantara: Chapter 1 is directed by Rishab Shetty, who plays the male lead as well. For his performance in the 2022 film, Rishab earned the National Film Award for Best Actor. The movie had also bagged the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Also starring Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram in key roles, Kantara: Chapter 1 features cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap, editing by Suresh, music by B Ajaneesh Loknath, and production design by Banglan.
