Thor Love And Thunder box office: Chris Hemsworth starrer has a smashing first weekend

Marvel Cinematic Universe aka MCU is one of the biggest film franchises that the entire world has ever seen. Every project in it becomes a global project and not just a Hollywood one. The latest offering from the MCU is the Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale-starrer Thor: Love and Thunder and it’s smashing first week box office collection in India reflect the fandom that it enjoys in the country.

Thor: Love and Thunder opened in India on July 7, a day before its global release, and even after being a working Thursday, the film collected Rs 18.20 crore at the box office. After a dip on Friday, the film closed its first Saturday and Sunday with collections at par with the first day business, taking the extended first weekend collection to Rs 64.80 crore.

Here’s detailed break up of the film’s collection in India:

Thursday: 18.20 crore

Friday: 11.40 crore

Saturday: 16.80 crore

Sunday: 18.40 crore

Total: ₹ 64.80 crore

Thor faced the Hindi release Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2, featuring Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi on the box office but emerged as the clear fan-favourite. While the word of mouth for the film has been mixed, the Marvel reputation and the love for the franchise will see the collections soar. Rs 100 crore is well within reach for the film, and it remains to be seen how soon will the film touches that milestone.

There is no big Hollywood film that is releasing in near future, and the next week Hindi releases include Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra-starrer HIT: The First Case. The next big commercial venture hitting the screens will be Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt’s Shamshera that releases on July 22, so it gives a two week window for Thor: Love and Thunder to perform and expand its collections.

Thor: Love and Thunder follows Thor’s journey after the Avengers’ win over Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. It starts with him joining the Guardians Of The Galaxy and then eventually trying to find his next purpose in life, while dealing with a new villain who is out to wipe off all the Gods from the universe. The film also sees the rise of the Mighty Thor aka Dr Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman, while Christian Bale plays the antagonist.
