After much controversy, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life finally hit theatres on Thursday. Despite the mixed occupancy in different regions and formats, the movie’s first-day collection is considered a strong opening, especially for a regional film.
Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 1
According to industry tracker Sacnilk.com, the movie earned Rs 15.5 crores (all languages). The original Tamil movie minted Rs. 15.4 crore, the Telugu dubbed version collected Rs. 1.50 crore, and the Hindi version just collected Rs. 10 lakh. The film had a good start, especially in Tamil.
It recorded a 48.72% overall occupancy in Tamil on Thursday. In the Hindi version (2D), it had a much lower occupancy at 5.73%. For the IMAX 2D version, the movie saw 32.86% Tamil occupancy, 21.92% Telugu occupancy, and 7.17% in Hindi. Thug Life was also released in the 4DX format. On Thursday, the Tamil version in 4DX had an overall occupancy of 34.25%.
Fans were excited to see Kamal Haasan back in action, and the collaboration with director Mani Ratnam added to the hype.More collections and viewer reviews over the weekend will give a clearer picture of the film’s performance at the box office.
