Toxic Box Office Day 1 (Worldwide): Yash Starrer Opens At Rs 140 Cr; Fails To Beat KGF’s Debut Day Collection

Geetu Mohandas’ Yash-starrer Toxic defied all expectations with a blockbuster first day at the ticket window. The A-rated film surpassed earlier projections, which had estimated its opening to be around Rs 80-85 crore net in India and approximately Rs 110 crore gross worldwide. While expectations for a strong pan-India debut were high, Toxic accelerated at a rapid pace. Sacnilk reported that it earned Rs 101 crore net (Rs 120 crore gross) in India on its first day. The Hindi version led the charge with Rs 55 crore, followed by the Telugu dubbed version, which netted Rs 11 crore. The Kannada version, despite high occupancy, managed to cross Rs 25 crore. The film’s opening day marked the second-best start for an Indian film this year, behind only Dhurandhar 2, which had a Rs 103 crore opening.

In the overseas market, Toxic did not reach the same level of penetration as films like Dhurandhar 2 and Pathaan, earning just over $2 million initially. Nevertheless, this helped push the worldwide gross to Rs 140 crore, making it the second-highest opening in Kannada cinema history. Toxic outperformed films such as Jawan, Adipurush, and Animal.

The film’s Rs 101 crore day 1 haul places it among the top-15 opening days for Indian films ever. Its strong domestic performance allowed Toxic to surpass the global opening totals of big films like Pathaan (Rs 104 crore), Animal (Rs 116 crore), Adipurush (Rs 127 crore), and Jawan (Rs 129 crore). However, it fell short of Yash’s own record of Rs 164 crore set by KGF Chapter 2 four years ago, and also missed the year’s biggest opening, Dhurandhar 2’s Rs 205 crore, by a significant margin.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. The film released in theatres on August 26. It has attracted attention for its steamy, intimate scenes and sequences perceived to portray women unfavorably through imagery and dialogue. The CBFC cleared the film with no cuts, rating it A. Despite this, Toxic has received largely negative reviews, which could influence its word of mouth in the coming days
