AR Ameen AR Rahman

AR Rahman’s son AR Ameen has officially stepped into the spotlight as a playback singer with his debut track Bheegi Bheegi, a romantic collaboration with Jasleen Royal, featuring the popular Sita Ramam duo Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur. The song presents a heartfelt love story that spans alternate realities, shifting from retro backdrops to a futuristic dystopian world, and marks Ameen’s new musical journey under his label, Rooh Records.

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the young, aspiring singer opened up about carving out his own identity, the pressure of carrying AR Rahman’s legacy, and the lessons he has learned from his father over the years. Read on to know what the singer shared.

AR Ameen On Facing Pressure Of Father AR Rahman’s Legacy

Talking about whether he feels any pressure because of his father’s iconic legacy, Ameen admitted that he wants to build his own path instead of comparisons. He said, “I’m starting with my own plant, and I have a long way to go. I have a lot of hard work to do. My dad has worked with so many composers, he’s done so many jingles and live shows. He has done a lot of work to be where he is right now, and obviously, God’s blessings. So I have a lot of work to do, and I want to come up with my own path, and I don’t want to compare or anything.”

The young talent also shared fond memories of learning music directly from his father and how their travels often turned into impromptu lessons.“My dad uses the harmonium a lot. So he always teaches me, and we travel together a lot; we were in Delhi, then we were in London. So whenever we are travelling, he always gives me some time from the schedule to teach me a few things.”

AR Ameen also spoke honestly about the challenges he faced while recording a Hindi track, saying, “I had people like Isra ji helping me, and from my studio, other Hindi-speaking people guided me on how to pronounce and how to pay respect to the language and the dialect. It took me a few tries, but I hope I managed to do it.”
