Ashutosh Rana, one of Indian cinema’s most respected and versatile actors, has consistently left a strong impression with his powerful performances across films, television and theatre. Widely loved for his intense roles in films like Sangharsh and television shows such as Aap Beeti, and Ssshhhh…Koi Hai. Now, he is gearing up to be seen once again in the upcoming film One Two Cha Cha Chaa. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Ashutosh opened up about whether OTT platforms are replacing cinema and how the growing number of mediums has actually expanded opportunities for artists. Read on to know what all he shared.
Ashutosh Rana On OTT Bringing New Opportunities
Talking about whether OTT has truly given more opportunities to actors, the One Two Cha Cha Chaa actor shared, “Ye opportunities khuli hain. Pehle jab hum log aaye the, tab humse pehle jo log the unke paas apni kala ko pradarshit (display) karne ke liye sirf film thi ya theatre tha. Hum jis daur mein aaye, humein television bhi mila. Ab kalakar toh badh rahe hain, lekin usko vyakt karne ke madhyam bhi badh gaye. Cinema bhi hai, TV bhi hai. Phir television mein bhi kai kism ke channels aa gaye- aaj 10–25 entertainment channels hain, sab par series banne lagi, toh daayra aur badha. Phir OTT aa gaya, toh daayra aur badh gaya.”
He further added, “Opportunities badh gayi. Ab YouTube hai, Instagram hai, social media ke tamaam mediums hain. Aap dekh rahe honge ki reels ban rahi hain. Har vyakti mein naisargikta hoti hai, humara temperament hota hai. Hum bhagyashaali log hain ki humne kala ko apna pesha bana liya hai. Anyatha, kalakar aap bhi hain, kyunki kala chalti hi us par hai jo kala dekhne aur appreciate karne ki samajh rakhta hai. Agar aisa nahi hota toh kala chalti kahan?”
Ashutosh Rana: Social Influencers Bigg Boss Mein Jaate Hai
He further explained how every medium holds its own importance and how one platform doesn’t reduce the value of another. “Toh kehne ka arth yeh hai ki yeh saare platforms hain aur inke aane se opportunities badhi hain. Aap kitni reels dekh rahe honge jo log khud create kar rahe hain. Kitne anjaan log aaj viral ho gaye hain. Social influencers ko Bigg Boss jaise shows mein liya ja raha hai. Toh yeh sab madhyam hain, aur kisi madhyam ke aane se kisi aur madhyam ka mahatva kam nahi hota. Cinema jaisa ka taisa chal raha hai, television jaisa ka taisa chal raha hai, OTT bhi apni jagah chal raha hai, aur social media jaise naye medium badhte ja rahe hain. Ultimately, agar aap OTT par superhit ho jaate ho, toh bhi cinema ka ek alag mahatva hai.
Emphasising that OTT can never replace Cinema, The Actor added, “Cinema ke paas ek quality hai ki woh aapke jaane ke baad bhi maujood rahega- ek tarah ki library hai. Jaise aap local level par acche khiladi ho, lekin jab Indian cricket team mein selection hota hai, chahe ek match khelo, aap national player ke taur par jaane jaate ho. Waise hi, TV, OTT sab kar lijiye, lekin jab aap ek film kar lete ho, log aapko proper professional actor maante hain. Isiliye log kehte rehte hain ki OTT aa gaya, lekin hum sabki daud kahin na kahin cinema tak jaati hai. Mirzapur par film ban rahi hai na- iska matlab har cheez ka apna mahatva hai. Kisi ek ka mahatva badhane ke liye kisi aur ka mahatva kam karne ki zarurat nahi honi chahiye.”
Harsh Mayar On OTT Transforming Storytelling
Actor Harsh Mayar, who is also part of One Two Cha Cha Chaa and is known for his National Award-winning performance in I Am Kalam, also shared his perspective on how OTT has transformed storytelling. He said, “Definitely OTT ne zyada opportunities di hain. Sabse bada reason yeh hai ki humein 6–7 ghante milte hain ek kahani aur character arc ko develop karne ke liye. Do–dhai ghante ki film mein agar bohot saare kirdaar hote hain, toh kai cheezein miss ho jaati hain, par OTT mein aisa nahi hota.”
The cast of One Two Cha Cha Chaa highlighted how cinema, television, OTT and digital platforms can coexist without competing with each other. While OTT has opened doors for deeper storytelling and wider reach, cinema continues to hold its timeless charm and credibility. Together, these evolving mediums are creating more space for talent, creativity and diverse voices in the entertainment industry.
