Avinash Gowariker is a renowned photographer celebrated for his work in celebrity and advertising photography, particularly within the Bollywood industry. He started his career as an assistant director and has worked with Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone and others. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Avinash Gowariker recalls living in Salman Khan’s Galaxy apartment and sharing the same room as Sohail Khan until his marriage.

Avinash Gowariker Opens Up On Staying With Sohail Khan In Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment

When asked about his Galaxy stories of Salman Khan, Avinash Gowariker said, “I have a hundred stories from Galaxy Apartments, but you have to understand one thing, Salman is like that because it comes from Salim uncle. Salman has inherited that generosity from Salim sahab. Don’t forget, the doors of Galaxy have always been open because of Salim sahab, and all the children have inherited that same spirit. Salman is the same way—they don’t even blink an eye before helping someone. When I started my career, I didn’t even have a place to stay.”

Avinash Gowariker Recalls His Struggling Days

Avinash added, “At that time, my parents had sold our house and shifted to Pune, so I was living in a 10-by-10-foot chawl room, with just a Kinetic Honda scooter. That’s how I started. I was constantly moving from one rented place to another. And at one point, I got caught between rentals; I had no place to go. When I told this to Salman, his immediate reaction was, ‘Oh, come stay in the house. Stay in Sohail’s room.’ Now, how can you even think like that? That’s how big-hearted they are. And when I say ‘they,’ I mean Salman for offering, and Sohail for allowing me to stay. Salim sahab opened the doors. Arbaaz, everyone—people just stay in that house. And let me clarify, it’s not like they were living in some massive mansion.”

Avinash Calls Himself A NOBODY

In the same interview, he said, “Galaxy is an apartment—just an apartment. But their hearts are enormous. And whom did they open them to? A struggling Maharashtrian photographer. Please understand—I was nobody. Just a simple, struggling, middle-class guy. I wasn’t their friend’s son; I had no connections. They just felt I was a nice guy, and Salman liked me. That’s it. They opened the door for me. We talk about Galaxy stories so casually, but they’re actually huge. These stories aren’t small; they’re massive gestures. Imagine the kind of pressure they were under, and still, they offered me a place to stay. I stayed there for a long time.”

Concluding, he said, “There’s a bit of a controversy about how long, Sohail says it was a few years; I feel it was just a few months—but whatever the case, I stayed there until the night Sohail got married. After that, I had to move out, unfortunately. But that’s the kind of people they are. Oh my god—it’s unbelievable, but it’s true. So now, what credit can I really take? When someone opens their heart like that, especially at the peak of their superstardom, while they’re shooting, working—what more can I say? I must have done something right in life for God to give me these angels.”
