Donal Bisht Reflects on Makar Sankranti, Intuition, and Childhood Kite-Flying Memories

Makar Sankranti has always symbolised fresh beginnings, reflection, and renewal, and for actor Donal Bisht, the festival carries both personal and emotional meaning. As she welcomes the harvest festival this year, Donal finds herself at a turning point choosing clarity over illusions, intuition over noise, and healing over hurt.

Donal Bisht On Makar Sankranti

In a candid conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actor opens up about lessons learned over the past few years, trusting her gut feeling, and letting go of people who no longer align with her journey. She also fondly revisits her childhood memories of Makar Sankranti spent in Alwar, Rajasthan, where kite-filled skies, family warmth, and simple joys defined the spirit of the festival.

“Makar Sankranti truly marks new beginnings,” Donal said. “This year, I am ready to let go of seeing the world through rosy-tinted glasses. I feel I have seen enough empathising sometimes with the wrong people too, as sometimes you are fooled by the words! So now listening to my gut feeling & the vibe.”

She added that the last two years have been a phase of healing and understanding. “It took me past 2 years to heal, understand people & this world fully, hopefully. Now, I choose to see the world as it truly is.”

Donal believes intuition has become her strongest guide. “Realised believing in the gut feeling is always the right thing to do, it can save you from the fake and wrong people! Now I believe more in my gut feeling, my intuition, and the real vibe people carry, which cannot be faked.”

Along with emotional clarity, the actress also has a light-hearted resolution. “As I said, I am welcoming complete faith in my intuition. And one more thing I truly want to do is wake up at six in the morning,” she laughed. “I genuinely want to start waking up very, very early.”

Talking about her childhood, Donal grew nostalgic as she recalled celebrating Makar Sankranti in Alwar, Rajasthan. “I have very beautiful Makar Sankranti memories. In the early years of my life, we lived in Alwar, Rajasthan. I clearly remember how everyone would go up to their terraces to fly kites. The entire sky would be filled with kites everywhere.”

She fondly remembered her role during kite-flying sessions. “I was usually the one holding the kite string,” she laughed. “I didn’t really know how to fly a kite.” Her family would only hand over the kite once it was stable in the sky. “They knew it wouldn’t fall by then.”

“These are such sweet memories,” she said. “Even today, whenever I see a kite, I feel like flying one.”

Reflecting on the warmth of her hometown, Donal shared, “In cities like Delhi or Mumbai, you don’t really see the entire sky filled with kites anymore. But in Alwar, Rajasthan, where I spent the first ten to twelve years of my life, I often go back to those memories. There was so much warmth in Rajasthan, and even today, whenever I visit, I feel a certain warmth there that is slightly missing elsewhere.”
