Karan Tacker Addresses TV Tags On Actors

When asked how difficult it is to be labelled as a TV actor and not just an actor for work, Karan Tacker said, “Honestly, it’s very difficult to answer why an industry that is meant to be or boasts of being one fraternity. It follows the same CINTAA regulations and is governed by a single body, constantly feels the need to put labels on actors. I always say this as a joke, and someday, if Vijay sees this, he might come and hit me for it. But it’s not like you say ‘OTT actor Vijay Varma’ or ‘OTT actor Pankaj Tripathi’; you just say ‘Actor Pankaj,’ you just say ‘Pankaj Tripathi,’ right? So I feel like actors don’t need to be unnecessarily slotted.”

Karan Is Grateful For His TV Background

He added, “At the same time, someone once pointed something out to me that I found quite beautiful. If we say ‘TV actor Karan Tacker,’ it’s because he has a legacy on television. And I agree, I’m very proud of the background I come from. Truly, I feel like I got the first season of Special Ops, perhaps because of my schooling from television or whatever I did as an actor there. That said, our industry sees it very differently.

Further adding, Tacker said, “I think the problem lies there. Makers look at actors from television through a very different lens. The media also treats actors differently when they don’t come from a film background. That’s where the real battle is. But for me, as an actor, and about the post you’re talking about, it truly came as a beautiful surprise to realise that it’s not just actors like me in India who face these questions.”

Concluding, the actor said, “Even the gods I look up to in cinema, like Cillian Murphy, Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders. Someone who resonates deeply with me when it comes to entertainment. He has done some of the best roles with Nolan, playing Thomas Shelby. And even won an Oscar, and he’s still talking about how, as an actor, he doesn’t differentiate between mediums. For him, performance is performance, and craft is just craft. I think our entertainment industry also needs to stop thinking so narrowly. They need to widen their horizon when it comes to actors.
