Hiten Tejwani, best known for portraying Karan Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has been in the television industry for over 25 years. Having expanded his repertoire with projects like the web series The Writer’s Block and the film Bihu Attack, he is now steadily carving a space for himself in the film industry as well. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actor discussed how television actors are perceived in Bollywood and highlighted the pay disparities between TV and film actors. Hiten Tejwani Opens Up On The Gap Between TV And Bollywood Actors

When questioned about the gap between TV actors and Bollywood actors, Hiten Tejwani said, “Pehle hota tha. Bolte the TV actor, TV actor. Dheere dheere woh gap joh hai kam ho raha hai. Woh line joh hai thin ho rahi hai. Ab logo ko actor chaiye. It doesn’t matter woh TV actor hai, ya theatre actor hai, ya film actor hai. Ya isne kya ads kiye hai. If a director sees that he matches and suits the character, then I want him to come, because it is now a matter of the whole project. It’s not that ki you know because yeh yaha se aaya, waha se aaya. Aise nahi hai. Ab nahi raha. Woh dheere dheere kam ho raha hai. Pehle tha.”

Hiten Tejwani Opens Up On Pay Disparities In Bollywood

Speaking about pay disparities in Bollywood, Hiten said, “Woh toh dekhiye woh hoga hi. Abhi joh dekhiye joh ek film star hai jaise abhi TV mein joh charge karte hai woh newcomer ko nahi milega. It’s the same. Woh film star hai. Hum jayenge toh of course uske jitna nahi milega. But kyuki itne saal diye hai toh we’ll be there as well. Because then it’s up to you, as I said na ki aapke upar hai. Aapki ek fixed price hoti hai joh aap bolte ho. Aap coat karte ho. Ab aapke upar hai aap usko kitna negotiate kar sakte ho. Aapke liye role important hai, paise important hai, production house important hai, director important hai ya poora project important hai. Woh aap sochna.”
