Isha Koppikar Deepika Padukone

Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar, best known for her performances in Don and Krishna Cottage, shared her candid thoughts on the ongoing debate around long working hours in the film industry. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress reacted to Deepika Padukone’s comments on structured work shifts and work-life balance, offering a clear and practical take on contracts, accountability, and fairness between actors and producers. Read on to know what she had to say.

Isha Koppikar On Long Working Hours In The Industry

Addressing the discussion around regulated working hours, Isha Koppikar emphasised that both parties must agree on expectations before signing a project, saying, “Humari shift hai, normal 12 ghante ki shift hoti hai. I think contract karne ke time decide karo aap, actor aur producer. Producer ko sochna chahiye aapko woh actor chahiye toh actor ki maange puri karo. Nahi karna hai, you can afford to lose that actor, thik hai.”

She further explained that producers cannot expect top talent to compromise without meeting their professional requirements. “Aapko actor bhi chahiye aur woh actor aapke hisaab se kaam bhi kare, ye nahi sakta. Agar aapke hisaab se karne wala actor ho toh us actor ko lo. Aur nahi kar raha hai aapke hisaab se toh mat lo. I don’t know what is the problem here,” Isha added.

Sharing a realistic scenario, the actress highlighted how flexibility works both ways depending on individual priorities. “Mujhe utna kaam chahiye aur kaam ki zarurat hai, mujhe woh film chahiye, main 12 ghante nahi, 16 ghante kaam karne ko tayyar hoon. Lekin aapko 8 ghante ki actress chahiye aur usse aap 16 ghante karwana chahte ho, woh nahi karegi. Toh mat karo uske saath kaam, kisi aur ke saath karo,” she stated.

Isha Koppikar Calls Out Producers

Isha made it clear that the responsibility lies with producers who want premium talent without matching their expectations financially or professionally. “Toh isme actor ki galti kahaan se hai? Producer ki galti hai. Aapko heroine bhi chahiye hit, hero bhi chahiye superhit, toh woh apne hisaab se kaam karenge. We complicate our lives because we want the best, but we don’t want to pay the best and we want to get the best out of them. Kaise hoga?” she questioned candidly.

She also acknowledged that many producers replace actors if terms don’t align, and she sees nothing wrong with that process. “There are a lot of producers jinhone actors ko nikaal diya hai because they don’t work on their terms. Nikalo. 10 film nahi milengi toh actors aapke hisaab se kaam karenge. Aur nahi karenge matlab unka pet bhara hua hai. I don’t see the problem,” Isha concluded.

With refreshing honesty and practical clarity, Isha Koppikar cuts through the noise surrounding the work-hour debate, stressing mutual respect, transparency and accountability in professional agreements. Her perspective reinforces a simple truth, fair expectations, fair compensation and clear contracts create healthier working environments in an industry driven by collaboration and creativity.
