Sunny Deol Recalls Father Dharmendra Shooting 3 Films
When asked about how actors manage going into character while filming, Sunny Deol said, “Jaise aap pooch rahe the ki acting mein ghusna, nikalna, ye karna, wo karna. I mean, aap dekh lijiye, 60s ki filmein dekh lijiye, 70s ki filmein dekh lijiye, papa ko dekh lijiye. Kitni dhang ki filmein ki hain unhone. Ek hi saal mein itna variation aur itne saal mein, ek saal mein aur har din mein teen filmein karte the. Kabhi unhone socha hoga ki main ye character mein kaise ghusoon? So, that is the beauty of whatever an actor is. And I just feel acting is either you have it or you don’t have it. Uske baad humare paas ye tools milte hain, jaise, we kind of try to skill ourselves.”
Contunuing he said, “And shuru mein toh lagta hai ki nahi, maine ye thesis karunga, wo karunga, lekin jab baad mein aati hai end of the day, whom are you playing? An emotional character which is existing around us, right? Aur wo sab humare aas paas hai, aur it’s all within us also, and we are trying to portray that. It’s just basically how you make that thing alive over there. Kitne hote hain jahan aap play karte ho, like he (referring to Randeep Hooda) did the film where you have to lose weight and come down to that process, right? Because you have to look like that person, but looking like that person is, I mean, it’s your job. I mean, you have achieved that, but that is not what it is. It’s how you can get into, actually feel what that person was, why he was.”
Sunny Deol Recalls His Acting In Border
Speaking of the time when he was filming Border, the actor said, “Saying what he was saying, what was this thing behind it. Toh woh cheezon ki gehraai joh hoti hai, usmein jaana bada mushkil hota hai. I mean, I don’t know because I haven’t seen many of the films. But I always liked when I did Border also, I was playing a Chandpuriji. I just understood what he had done over there, what it was, and that’s it. Jo uske baare mein hum aaj bhi baat karte hain. Mujhe, main bas woh character mein tha, mujhe yeh nahi pata tha ki Santooji ne aise kiya tha ya waise kiya tha, ya ye thi unki… no, but that’s what I feel. That’s what acting is all about.”
In conclusion, “Haan, toh phir aadmi andar ghus jaata hai. Ab jab ghus jaata hai, sirf khud ko nahi pata hota, yaar maine ye kya kar liya, kaise ho gaya, thoda. Aur jaise, phir uske baare mein hum log phir lagayenge, isko maine aise karna hai, isko aise karna hai, aise karna hai. Wo sirf aage dikhane ke liye hota hai. Andar se aadmi ke andar jaake, thak ho jaata hai, toh apne aap hi wo cheez aa jaati hai.”
