Janaawar – The Beast Within – directed by Shacindra Vats and starring Bhuvan Arora, premiered on ZEE5 recently to mixed reviews from critics. The show’s director, Shacindra Vats recently spoke to us about filming the series in the heart of India and how one scene seemed to merge reality with mythology. For the unversed, Janaawar blends realism with mythology through Gram Devta. Scroll below to read what he said.
Shacindra Vats On Janaawar’s Ritual Scene
When we asked the show’s director if there was any day he felt myth meeting reality on set, the filmmaker shared, “When we filmed the ritual scene with real villagers, the very people whose traditions inspired it performed the ceremony themselves. Their devotion was overwhelming — an 80-year-old man danced with astonishing energy, while the women shifted into raw emotion, screaming and bringing the ritual alive. They weren’t acting; they were living the moment, forgetting the presence of the camera. It was surreal — a powerful fusion of myth and reality that left us all with goosebumps.”
